This festival is all about bringing together the best and brightest in the retail industry to generate new partnerships, as well as brainstorm ideas to tackle the uncertain future.

We had a stand at the event, and were thrilled to attend. Many of our main partners – including Bronto, Emarsys, Dotmailer, Zendesk, Braintree – were there too. Packed with exciting ideas, interesting speakers, and cutting-edge technologies, the expo was a valuable learning opportunity for all.

The event kicked off on Wednesday the 29th of March with discussions about the customer landscape. Speakers addressed key consumer trends, customer acquisition and engagement, and challenges in providing the best client experience. There were also conversations on the changing world of Australian retail, focusing on the move towards ecommerce and the influx of international competition. In particular, there was talk of Amazon’s impending arrival on Australian shores, and how that is likely to impact local retail business.

One of the speakers, Catch Group CEO Nati Harpaz, also noted that customers want the best products at the best prices, and international companies are able to provide this thanks to their superior supply chain. Therefore, owning a product from supply chain to retail operation must be a keystone of modern retail if a brand wants to be competitive.

The day finished off with the Top 50 People In Ecommerce launch party. We went along to celebrate the very best talents in the digital retail sphere, as selected by Internet Retailing and a panel of e-commerce experts. It was a fabulous evening with drinks, canapes and entertainment by DJ Dan Rowntree and trumpeter Paul Wheeler, and proved to be an excellent opportunity to network with various providers, suppliers and retailers.

On Thursday, we attended the Retailer Awards. This black-tie event showcases the crème de la crème of the Australian retail industry, and it was another great opportunity to honour notable achievements within the trade. As with the rest of the expo, the Gala Awards were filled with illuminating insights into the retail industry, and were well worth attending.
